LSA optimization

Win more LSA placements for less per lead

Local service ads optimization for Dallas home service companies. We tune the things Google actually weighs: your reviews, how fast you answer, your hours, your job types, your bid mode and how your budget paces through the week. More of the top spots, fewer wasted leads.

The problem

Raising your budget won’t fix a low LSA rank.

Most contractors run Local Service Ads like a faucet. Leads slow down, so they turn the budget up. Sometimes it helps for a week. Often it just means paying more for the same spot, or watching the money sit unspent while a competitor in Garland keeps the top position.

That’s because Google doesn’t rank LSA on budget alone. It looks at how close you are to the homeowner, your review score and review count, how quickly you respond to calls and messages, whether you’re open when the search happens, and whether there are serious complaints about your business. Your bid matters too, but it sits next to all of that, not above it.

So the shop that answers on the second ring, has fresh reviews and keeps its hours honest can outrank a bigger company with a bigger budget. And the shop that lets calls go to voicemail at 4:45 on a Friday slowly drops, no matter what it spends.

The good news: almost every one of those signals is something you control.

What we do

Six levers we work to improve your local service ads ranking.

  • Reviews inside your LSA profile. We check your review score and count against the companies outranking you, then set up a steady post-job ask so new reviews keep coming. Fresh reviews from real customers, never bought or filtered.
  • Responsiveness. Missed calls and slow message replies count against you. We find where leads go unanswered (lunch, after 5, Saturday mornings) and fix the routing, the forwarding or the coverage so a person picks up.
  • Business hours that match reality. Hours that say you’re open when nobody answers hurt you twice: a missed lead and a responsiveness hit. We set hours to when your phones are actually covered, and expand them only when coverage grows.
  • Job types and service area. We switch on the job types you want more of and switch off the ones you don’t do or don’t want, so you stop paying for drain calls when you’re a remodeler. Service area gets trimmed to the zip codes your trucks can reach.
  • Bid mode. We decide between letting Google maximize leads and setting a max per lead, based on your lead history and margins, then revisit it as data builds.
  • Budget pacing. We watch how your budget spends through the week. If it’s gone by Tuesday, you’re invisible Wednesday to Sunday. We adjust so the ad stays live when your crews have open slots.

How a tune-up runs.

  1. Week 1

We pull your lead history, missed calls, hours, job types and spend pattern, and compare your profile with the companies that show above you in your area.

  2. Week 2

We fix the quick wins: hours, job types, service area, call forwarding and the review ask. Then we set the bid mode and budget to match your capacity.

  3. Weeks 3 to 8

We watch lead volume, answer rate and position each week, mark bad leads, and adjust one lever at a time so we know what moved the needle.

  4. Every month

You get booked jobs, answer rate, review growth and spend in one report, with what we changed and why.

LSA ranking factors

What actually moves your position in Local Service Ads.

Google publishes the broad LSA ranking factors in its Local Services Ads help center: proximity, reviews, responsiveness, hours, complaints and your bid and budget. It doesn’t publish the weights. What we can tell you is which ones a Dallas contractor can change this month and which ones you have to plan around.

The ones you can’t change fast

Proximity is the big one. If you’re based in Mesquite, a homeowner in Flower Mound is a long way off, and Google knows it. You can widen your service area, but you won’t win far-off searches the way a local shop does. We’d rather put your budget where your trucks already are than pay to chase leads across the Metroplex.

The ones you can change this week

Responsiveness and hours are the fastest wins. Answer more calls, reply to messages quickly, and list hours your office can actually cover. A lot of accounts we look at lose more ground to missed Saturday calls than to anything a competitor does.

The one that compounds

Reviews take steady work. A profile that gains a few honest reviews every week ends up in a different place in six months than one that asks only when someone remembers. Our review generation system feeds your Google Business Profile, and those reviews show on your LSA profile too.

Bid mode and budget, in plain terms

With maximize leads, Google sets bids to get the most leads it can from your budget. With a max per lead, you cap what you’ll pay for each one. Neither is right for every company. A new account often learns faster letting Google bid. An established one with clear margins may want a cap. What matters is that the budget lasts all week and stays off the job types you don’t want. For what drives the price of a lead, see our guide on LSA cost per lead.

Optimization is half the job

A higher position brings more leads, and some of them will be junk: wrong trade, out of area, spam. Those need to be flagged every week, which our LSA lead quality work covers. And none of this starts until you’re verified. Since October 20, 2025, that means the Google Verified badge, which replaced Google Guaranteed and dropped the money-back guarantee. Our Google Guaranteed and Google Verified page explains the setup.

What we won’t do

  • Promise you the top spot. Nobody controls that but Google.
  • Turn on job types you don’t want just to spend the budget.
  • Set hours you can’t staff to look more available.
  • Ask for reviews only from happy customers.

LSA optimization questions

How does Google rank Local Service Ads?

Google looks at how close you are to the searcher, your review score and number of reviews, how responsive you are to calls and messages, your business hours, any serious complaints, and your bid and budget. It doesn’t share exact weights, but most of those signals are in your hands, which is why optimization works.

Will a bigger budget get me to the top of LSA?

Not on its own. Budget and bid are part of ranking, but a company with better reviews, faster answers and accurate hours can show above one that spends more. If your budget runs out early in the week, raising it helps you stay visible longer. It won’t fix a weak profile.

Do missed calls really hurt my LSA ranking?

Yes. Responsiveness is one of the factors Google lists, and unanswered calls and slow message replies work against you. Fixing call forwarding, covering lunch and after-hours, and setting honest hours is often the fastest way to improve your position without spending more.

How soon will I see changes after optimization?

Fixes to hours, job types and call coverage take effect as soon as they’re live, and lead mix often shifts within a couple of weeks. Review growth builds over months. We report what changed each week so you can see which levers worked. Want a look at your account? Contact us or book a discovery call.
